Initiate and promote goodwill, understanding, and community spirit It has been said, through our lives, we leave footprints on the
sands of time. Through our personal accomplishments, professional careers,
various travels, acts of kindness and generosity, our compassion and
strength of character, we affect the lives of others. As such, we feel
quite proud to be associated with the American Society of Bogota which
has positively impacted and changed the lives of over 800 Colombian
Children. The American Society of Bogotá - 66 year History The American
Society of Bogotá was established in May 1939 to promote Goodwill, Understanding
and Community Spirit among Colombians and US Citizens residing in Colombia.
In the early years, The American Society of Bogotá held activities in
the Jockey Club, Hotel Tequendama, and Colegio San Carlos. In 1956,
the Society held its first Independence Day Dance in the “Salon Rojo
Del Hotel Tequendama” and, that same year, published its first year
book. Since its inception in 1939, the American Society has had over
50 Presidents. Many of whom have been associated with International
and Multinational companies such as General Electric, Westinghouse Electric,
Phillips Petroleum, The First National City Bank, Bristol Laboratories,
Otis Elevator, Sears & Roebuck, Lucent Technologies, Coca-Cola, Mobil,
Banco de Crédito-Helm Financial Services, Texaco and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
In 1972, The American Society of Bogotá began its scholarship program
for underprivileged children of Colombia. Since then, over 800 children
have been educated with funds raised through our Annual Dinner Dance,
Golf and Tennis Tournaments, the US Embassy Picnic, as well as other
fund raising activities. Currently, the Society sponsors over 125children
in various Elementary, High Schools and Technical Colleges located throughout
Bogotá. We, the Board of Directors, thank you for your loyal support.
